A Rich Man And His Servants

                   Once upon a time, there was a rich man. He had five servants. One day a valuable thing was stolen from his house. The rich man suspected his servants but he could not find out the thief. So the rich man thought of a plan. He called all the servants and gave a stick of equal length to each of them. He said to his servants, “Look, my dear, the thief’s stick will grow an inch more every night. You will come to me with your sticks tomorrow morning.”

                  At night the real thief could not sleep at all in tension. He thought within himself that he would be caught surely in the morning. He hit upon a plan. He cut an inch from his stick, thinking that all the sticks must be equal lengths tomorrow in the morning. The next morning all the servants appeared with their sticks. The rich man easily found out the real thief whose stick was shorter than all others’ sticks. The rich man caught the thief and handed him over to the police.

Moral: Greed causes one’s sufferings.
