The Hare and the Tortoise

words: 164
Once a hare met a tortoise and laughed at his slow pace. The tortoise said, “I am slow, but I can beat (defeat) you in a race.” The hare accepted the challenge with a smile. He was sure of winning the race. A day was fixed for the race. A fox was made the judge. The race started. The hare ran fast like an arrow. He soon went out of sight. The poor tortoise was left far behind. The hare said to himself, “I need not run so fast, I can easily take rest.” He lay down to rest under a tree and soon fell asleep. But the tortoise moved on slowly and steadily. He passed the sleeping hare and reached the goal. Suddenly the hare woke up and started running as fast as he could. But when he reached the goal he saw that the tortoise had already reached there. Thus the proud hare was beaten.
Moral: Slow but steady wins the race.
