Two Rival Beggars

Once upon a time, there lived two rival beggars in a city. They earned their living by begging. They were rivals in their occupation. One of them was very clever. He made a plan to earn more than his rival. He decided that he would pretend to be dumb. He bought a board. He wrote the words ‘dumb’ on it. Next, he hung it down his neck. The board with the word ‘dumb’ attracted the passers-by to help him with money. The other beggar cried and cried for help all day long but earned less than the other. He became jealous. He wanted to expose his rival’s trickery.
One day a kind-hearted gentleman was going to offer his rival a silver coin. The other beggar shouted at his loudest, ‘Sir’, he is not really a dumb fellow. He is a cheat. The pretender became very angry at this. He cried out, “You liar, I have been dumb from my birth. Even now I am dumb (so). The gentleman was astonished and said, “I shall not help dumb who can talk.”
Moral: A dirty trick does not last long.
