Mahatma Gandhi was a great patriot and freedom fighter. His real name was Mohandas Karam Chand Gandhi. He was born on 2nd October, 1869 at Porbandar in Gujrat. His father’s name was Karam Chand Gandhi and mother was Putlibai. He studied in India. Then he went to England to study law. (He studied law in London). Then he went to South Africa. There he began practice. He came to India in 1915 and joined the freedom movement. He was sent to prison several times. He was simple truthful and no-violent. Tagore called him Mahatma for his greet soul. Netaji gave him the title “Father of the Nation”. The great leader was killed on 30th January in 1948.
