Once upon a time, there was a merchant who had an ass. The ass had to carry salt from the market to different places. One day while he was carrying a bag of salt and crossing a bridge over a canal, suddenly he fell down into the canal. The salt on his bag melted in water and the load became lighter. The ass became glad. The next day he was crossing over the bridge with another bag of salt and purposely fell down into the canal. The load became lighter this time also. The ass began to do the same thing for days together. The master understood his tricks. He hit upon a plan to teach the trickster. Once he loaded a bag of cotton on the back of the ass. While crossing the bridge the ass purposely fell down into the canal. The cotton soaked a great quantity of water and became heavier. The ass was unable to bear it. He said, “Master, I have realized that you are wiser than I.” I beg your pardon and promise never again to play such a foul game in (the) future.
Moral: Deception always deserves punishment.
