A Wise King and His Courtiers

words: 178

Once upon a time, there lived a great king. He was famous for his generosity. His courtiers often flattered him. But he did not like flattery. Once his courtiers said, “Your Majesty, you have endless power. Even nature obeys you. If you order the sea to stop, it will stop.” The King did not like this flattery and wanted to teach them a good lesson. Along with the courtiers he went to a sea beach. He was standing on the sore with his courtiers. The weather was stormy and the big waves were rolling.

The King ordered the sea to stop its rolling waves. But the waves rolled on as before and drenched their clothes. Then the King turned toward(s) his courtiers and advised them not to flatter anyone like that. He said that God is all-powerful who alone can top anything but no man can do this. The courtiers felt ashamed of their folly and gave up their flattery forever.
