A Thief and a Saint / Hermit
words:214
Once upon a time, there lived a hermit in a wood. He was widely renowned for his wisdom. One night a thief entered his hut and stole a bag of articles. When the thief came out of the hermitage carrying the bag of stolen articles, the hermit came to know this. He ran after (pursued) the thief. The thief was afraid. He threw the bag of articles and ran as fast as he could. But the hermit ran faster than he and overtook him. Being caught red-handed, the thief began to tremble in fear. He thought that he would be beaten mercilessly and handed over to the police. But to his utter surprise the hermit said, “Friend, why have you come to steal? Don’t you know that stealing is a great sin?” The thief replied, “I know it lord. I have come to steal as my family is starving.” The hermit said, “Is it so? Then take this bag of articles along with this bag of gold. Live an honest life. Give up the path of sin. God will bless you.”
The thief followed his advice and became a saint in later life.
