words:219
Once upon a time, there was a shepherd. He used to tend his flock of sheep in a field beside (by the side of) a forest. One day while he was tending his sheep a mischievous idea came to his mind. He decided to make fun of the farmers who were working in a nearby field. Suddenly he cried, ‘Tiger’, ‘‘Tiger’, help me, save me. The ploughmen in the field heard the cry and rushed to his help. But when they reached the spot, they found the boy laughing. They found no tiger there. The ploughmen angrily went back to their work. Thereafter every now and then, he would cry out in that way. The ploughmen were befooled every time.
One day a tiger really did come. The shepherd cried and cried as loudly as he could. But alas! None came to his help that day. Everyone thought that the shepherd was making fun as before (like other days). The tiger fell upon the shepherd and killed him. He also killed many of his sheep. The foolish shepherd realized too late that to lie is a sin.
