A Cunning Fox

              There was once a lion in a jungle. One day he asked a sheep, “Do I look ugly?” The truthful sheep said in reply “Yes, Sir, you look very ugly.” The lion became very angry. He killed the sheep and ate him up. The lion turned to a wolf and said, “Do I look very ugly?” The wolf saw the lion eat the sheep up. He was shaking in fear. He said, “Who calls you ugly? You are the most handsome creatures in the world.” The lion became very angry. He replied, “You are a flatter. A flatterer like you has no right to live on earth.” Then and there the lion jumped upon him and ate him up. Next, the lion turned to a fox and said, “What is your opinion? Do you think that I am ugly?” The fox was cunning. Knowing by experience the fox replied, “Sir, I cannot say. I cannot see well. Besides I have lost my glasses.”

Moral: Remaining silent is better than flattering one in danger.

It is often better to remain silent in danger than to tell the truth and to flatter one.
