Many poets were born in India. Rabindranath Tagore was the greatest among them. He was born on 7th May, 1861 at Jorasanko in Kolkata. His father’s name was Maharshi Debendranath Tagore. His mother was Sarada Devi. He started writing from early age. He wrote many poems, songs, dramas, novels, stories, essays etc. He was awarded the Noble prize for ‘Gitanjali’ in 1913. He became world famous for his great creation. He was loved and honoured all over the world as ‘Viswakabi’. He set up Santiniketan at Bolepur. He founded the Biswasbharati at Santiniketan. He had great love for his country. He gave up Knighthood in protest against the killing of Jalianwala Bag. The greatest poet died on 7th August at the age of 80. He is no longer in the land of living but he will remain ever alive in our hearts.
