Annie Besant

             Annie Besant was an English native by  birth, but an Indian by choice. She was a great freedom fighter and a well-wisher of India. She was born on 1st October, 1847 in a middle class family of London. She was a famous British writer and an orator. She was a well-known socialist and the activist for the rights of women. She came to India and participated (took part) in Indian politics. He joined the Indian National Congress. Later she became the first woman president of the Indian National Congress in 1917. This great soul breathed her last on 20th September, 1933 in Madras creating a big vacuum in the hearts of the Indians. People will remember her contribution to the freedom movement of India for ever.
