The Book I Like Best

          I have read many famous books in Bengali. Most of them are story books and novels. I like Palli Samaj by Saratchandra Chatterjee the best. The book gives us a real picture of rural life which is full of party feelings and many other ills. Ramesh is the hero of the story. He is a man of modern education and culture. After his long absence he comes back to his native village. He sets up a school, helps the poor people and improves the roads of the village. But the villagers stand in his way. Their leader is Beni Ghoshal, uncle of Ramesh. They even send Ramesh to prison. But at last they understand their mistakes and begin to help him in his good works. 

          The important characters of the book are Beni Ghoshal, Gobinda Ganguli, Rama and Bismeswari. They seem to be living by the magic touch of the author’s pen. (They have become life-like by the magic pen of the author.) Ramesh is an ideal social worker. The book is very interesting and instructive. So I read the book again and again.
