Swami Vivekananda

          Swami Vivekananda was a great social reformer of modern India. He was born on 12th January in 1863 in North Kolkata. His pet name was Bele. His first name was Narendranath Dutta. His father Biswanath Dutta was a layer. His mother was Bhubaneswari Devi. She was a pious lady. Vivekananda was a spirited boy from his childhood. He was a meritorious student from school life.  He passed the Entrance Examination in the first division from Metropoliton Institution in 1879. He passed the F.A. Examination in 1881 and obtained his B.A. degree from Scottish Church College in Kolkata in 1884.  He met Sri Ramkrishna in 1881. It was the turning point of his life. He became his disciple. He travelled all over India on foot. He joined the parliament of Religion at Chicago in 1893. His memorable speech at the parliament made him famous. He travelled all over Europe. Back to India, he set up Ramkrishna mission in 1897. He also established Belur Math at Belur in 1899. The greatest man passed away on 4th July in 1902, at the age of 39.
